To A HOLIDAY CONCERT & Celebration Live Bulgarian Music Followed By a hafla With Vlada Tomova & Balkan Tales And DJ Poodlecannon (From the Bulgarian Bar) and DJ TBA Spinning Ethnic Mesh and Arabic Pop Tunes.
BALKAN TALES: Led by Vlada Tomova, called 'a Bulgarian vocal sorceress' (nymosaico.com), Balkan Tales weaves traditional songs into a contemporary acoustic sound, mixing old world flavor with the zest of a modern metropolis. From intimate duos to exhilarating group playing, the ensemble brings an array of textures and moods, blending fiery vocals, mournful taqasims, driving percussion, and complex harmonies. In addition to Balkan Tales, Vlada leads New York’s Bulgarian Women’s Choir, Yasna Voices, and her work with Balkan Beat Box has received international acclaim, topping world music charts. Her voice is featured on National Geographic's touring exhibit King Tut, and was heard at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy. Vlada's recent appearances include the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival, Toronto's Small World Festival, and New York's Summer Stage and Joe's Pub. "... her entrancing voice is front and center, even as dizzy beats dance around it." - NY Time Out “Phenomenal acrobatic vocalizations of every last voice, song, snort, and alarm bell.” - The Boston Globe
