Reception: Vanessa Redgrave
Thu, June 23, 2005 8:30 pm at Alwan for the Arts
Alwan for the Arts is delighted to extend to you an invitation to attend a special event honoring award-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave in person this Thursday. We wish to honor her both for her acclaimed work on the stage and screen, as well as for her life-long commitment to progressive political issues of importance to our community, such as her passionate work on behalf of the Palestinian struggle.
Ms. Redgrave has risked much in her work by courting controversy through her political commitments, while at the same time giving us some of the most memorable performances of recent decades in works such as Blow-Up, The Seagull, Howard's End, Girl Interrupted, Julia, House of the Spirits, and many many others and is currently starring in Euripides' play Hecuba at the Brooklyn Academy of Music -- for all of this, we would like you to join us in celebrating her.
Ms. Redgrave will be honored with a cocktail reception this Thursday evening, June 23, beginning at 8:30 PM. Cocktails and hors d'oeurvres will be served. Please note that this event is by invitation only -- if you would like to bring a friend, please inform us of this with your RSVP.
We apologize for the short notice, however, Ms. Redgrave is only in New York for a short visit. Alwan thanks you for your previous support of our diverse range of programs and events relating to the Middle East and North Africa -- this intimate event is intended for friends of Alwan to meet with an important public personality deserving of our honor. As you are well aware, as a non-profit organization, Alwan is dependent on the support of community members -- we hope that you will continue to support Alwan by making a donation to help offset the expenses of this and other similar events organized by us.
We look forward to greeting Vanessa Redgrave to New York with you this Thursday. RSVP to ahmed@alwanforthearts.org or 212 967 4318 by Thursday morning.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ahmed Issawi President
