Join Al-Awda NY: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition in commemorating the 1st Anniversary of the 2014 massacre in Gaza & the 10th Anniversary of the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) with Mustafa Barghouti and Joe Catron
The 2014 Israeli assault on Gaza took the lives of over 2,100 Palestinians, including 500 children. This all-out war against the Palestinian people, once again, displaced hundreds of thousands - most of whom are still waiting, with no hope for any form of restitution or reconstruction of their homes and lives to this day.
Join Al-Awda NY: the Palestine Right to Return Coalition and guest speakers Dr. Mustafa Barghouti and activist Joe Catron in commemorating this first anniversary of the 2014 Massacre in Gaza and the 10th anniversary of the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), to remember and honor Palestinian lives lost in the struggle.
Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, General Secretary of the Palestine National Initiative (PNI), member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Central Council, will speak on the massacres in Gaza, and the Palestinian call for international action to hold the Israeli state accountable in international forums for its ongoing war crimes. Dr. Barghouti will also speak about the burgeoning movement for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) and the power of grassroots global action to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people's struggle, right for return, liberation and self-determination.
Joe Catron, a solidarity activist and freelance reporter, lived in Gaza, Palestine for three and a half years, and during the 2012 and 2014 Israeli offensives. He accompanied farmers and fishermen in areas under continuos Israeli fire incursions. Catron contributes to Electronic Intifada and Middle East Eye, and co-edited "The Prisoners' Diaries: Palestinian Voices from the Israeli Gulag", an anthology of accounts by detainees freed in the 2011 prisoner exchange. During Israel's military operation last summer, Catron joined a group of international supporters working in Gaza hospitals and with local rescue teams.
