Alwan offers four classes in Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine colloquial conversation. Each meets for 10 sessions.
Arabic I: Wednesdays, Jan 19 - Mar 23, 6:10-8:00 pm
Arabic II or III*: Wednesdays, Jan 19 - Mar 30, 8:10-10:00pm
Levantine Arabic I (colloquial): Thursdays, Jan 20 - Mar 24, 6:10-8:00 pm
Levantine Arabic II (colloquial): Thursdays, Jan 20 - Mar 24, 8:10-10:00 pm

Class Descriptions:
Arabic Level I
Tuition: $420
Textbook: Brustad, K. et al., Alif Baa, with Multimedia, Introduction to Arabic Letters and Sounds, Georgetown University Press (Third Edition).
Instructor: Iman Meiki
This course will focus on learning the letters and sounds of Arabic and the skills of reading, writing and pronunciation, in addition to listening and basic conversation.
Arabic Level II or III*
Tuition: $420
Textbook: Brustad, K. et al, Al-Kitaab with DVDs Part 1 Georgetown University Press (Second Edition)
Instructor: Iman Meiki
This course is a continuation of Arabic I and will cover vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary for better comprehension in Modern Standard Arabic. It will focus also on further developing skills in listening, reading and speaking.
*The first meeting will be used to determine which level is appropriate for the greatest number of students. Consequently, the course will run for 10 weeks from January 26th, finishing on March 30th.
Levantine Arabic I
Tuition: $420
Instructor: Iman Meiki
This course will work on the student's conversation and pronunciation skills in order to achieve confidence and fluency in day-to-day situations. The course will be conducted in the Levantine dialect spoken in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. This course is for students who have completed Level I and have the ability to read and write.
Levantine Arabic II
Tuition: $420
Instructor: Iman Meiki
This course continues the lessons learned in Levantine Arabic I, a colloquial Arabic class that improves student conversation and pronunciation skills, in order to achieve confidence and fluency in day-to-day situations. The course focuses on the dialect spoken in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. This class is for students who have completed Levantine Arabic I, and have an ability to read and write, or have similar qualifications as determined by the instructor.
All classes will supplement textbook material with reading from Arabic newspapers and will introduce you to some Arab song and cinema.
Textbooks available at Dahesh Heritage Books, 1775 Broadway at 57th Street, or at some university bookstores.

Refunds
Please note that if you drop the class after the first session, you will be reimbursed 75% of the fees. No reimbursements will be made after attending the second class.
Late Registration
If you decide to register after the first class meeting you will be expected to bring a full tuition check to the 2nd session.
